Stevie Ray Vaughan is definitely one of the top 5 guitarists that ever lived, if not the top. His phrasing is perfect. He has this incredible mix of minimalism and In-Your-Face-Technique that he juxtaposes at will— like Freddy King meets Hendrix. Nobody out there has such beautiful phrasing as SRV (with maybe the exception of Clapton). I’m a musician and I listen to the musicality and phrasing just as much if not more than the pyrotechniques. But SRV was a rare bird who had both.  I LOVE his playing. Timing, phrasing, dynamics, slides, improvisations: all perfect. He knew the value of not playing just as much as the value of playing. RIP Stevie Ray you were one in 7 billion.

Well said, my friend. My Husband plays this song and brings the house down …every time. Few Guitarist can pull this off. But, with no disrespect, to Jimi, my mate, as good as he is…. actually gives credit to SRV for his “Better Than The Original ” Version . A title that we are all sure Jimi, the master, would humbly be proud to pass along. OBVIOUSLY Taking nothing from JIMI, and offfering More “Jimi” to the world. God Bless JH

Man I heard that when Stevie played his guitar, his hands would hurt. Apparently it was the way he played his guitar that caused his hands to hurt, however he had a really cool style that not very many people can replicate.

SRV is the only guy who consistently covers Hendrix well.

Keeps the Hendrix spirit alive, but he doesn’t try to out-Hendrix Hendrix. Instead, he out SRVs Hendrix.

I love how every one who listens to this song has a specific favorite part of around 10 seconds long that just made them go “holy crap”

There are people who can play the guitar, and then there are those who WIELD the guitar. And Stevie Ray Vaughan wielded that guitar masterfully. One of the best to ever do it.

Rest in peace, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and thank you.

Very few ever had the balls to play any Hendrix,,, SRV not only did it, but mastered it. Like Hendrix, NOBODY saw this dude coming…………….
